Oracle Acquires Micros Systems
Oracle has decided to step into the hospitality and hotel technology solutions sector by the
acquisition of Micros Systems Inc. The acquisition was carried out for a sum of $ 5.3 Billion valuing
the company at $ 68 per share. Located at Columbia, USA, Micros is the leading provider of
technology solutions to the hospitality sector commanding a 35% market share in the field.
Oracle and Micros together aim to establish a company which will provide a comprehensive
technological support focusing on the hotel and food and beverage sector. In doing so, they aim to
help transform the regular business models operating in the hospitality sector into high performance
oriented ones with the help of their combined technical know how.
They intend to use path breaking 21st century technologies such as cloud computing, internet of
things and big data to help the hotel and retail sector respond swiftly to ever changing customer
preferences, increase their productivity using transparent and integrated solutions and increase
revenues subsequently. The newly formed Hospitality Solutions division of Oracle Industries will
undoubtedly pioneer innovation in the sector and will effectively try to merge technology seamlessly
with the hospitality sector.
