New IBM x86 M5 Offers Improved Security and Efficiency
IBM introduced their M5 range of servers by launching x86 servers on 8th September,2014. The new
offering aims to create new standards of efficiency and security in a world driven by innovation and
addresses the need for mission critical applications.
The new M5 servers support a varied range of workloads in enterprises, from big data to cloud
computing as well as analytics. They are built around the high performance model of IBM servers
giving priority to security, efficiency and reliability and the portfolio includes highly customizable
tower and rack servers, integrated and dense systems to help businesses address the pressing issues
at the data centers and the office.
According to Adalio Sanchez, the GM for IBM x86 and PureSystems Solutions, the new M5 servers
are a product of revolutionary IBM innovation and lead to improved security, efficiency and
reliability to protect the client from sophisticated attacks on their company resources.
All the new M5 servers coming from the IBM stable are launched on the market only after a rigorous
validation process and offer highly sophisticated safeguarding systems. The servers can only be
validated fit for use by authorized firmware which is ensured using digital signatures and secured
production establishments.
The new M5 also offers industry first innovations which lead to significant decrease in energy usage
such as increased operating temperature ranges, dual active/standby mode for power supplies and
dual fan zones.
The new machines are in line with the previous System x models and feature highly convenient
servicing options with built-in diagnostic tools which lead to reduced labor costs.
