Ubuntu, Juju and OpenStack Make for the Robust LinuxONE
Some months back, IBM launched two models of IBM mainframes which employ Linux and open source services and software. The family of LinuxONE systems consists of LinuxONE Emperor based around the IBM z13 mainframe and Rockhopper. IBM’s hybrid cloud innovation depends mainly on these two mainframes.
IBM promises that LinuxONE, with the power of Ubuntu and OpenStack, brings the perfect solution to businesses boosting their productivity. Ubuntu is aimed at lowering the friction faced by users while working. Someone does not need to have knowledge about mainframe architecture to run Ubuntu on LinuxONE.
Users can tap into the powerful resources through PowerStack by accessing the mainframe as a cloud. The platform also comes with Ubuntu Juju Charms, which allows for easy creation of applications using Ubuntu’s DevOPs tool program. The options can shared, reused and are repeatable expressions of best practices of DevOPs. They can be used as is or tweaked to meet user preferences. Using a charm is like a package installation on Ubuntu. They can be added and removed easily.
The useful tools can be used on any hardware platform to develop applications. Complete sets of microservices contained in a reusable model can be automatically set up on LinuxOne with Juju Charm without the need of compiling them manually. This saves time and even complex apps can be developed and put into operation quickly. LinuxOne is equipped to seamlessly deal with numerous virtual machines and offer millions of containers. Complex workloads and demanding applications can be efficiently deployed with this combination of Ubuntu, Juju and OpenStack.
