Oracle Sun Microsystems in the Light of the Modern Era
June 2013
One of the oldest members of the market family that was founded in 1982 and that has been selling computers, components of computers, Information technology services and software is no one other than Sun Microsystems, now owned by Oracle as of 2010. This company is not just limited to these peripherals; it also sells and makes its own computer servers and SPARC based workstations. Other than that, it has work stations based on platforms such as AMD’s Opteron processors, the Solaris operating system, the NFS network file system, and Java.
People are looking upon Sun Microsystems as a potential and very promising career option. People have worked for more than two decades here and they still experience a lot of good things. Here is a proposed list of pros and cons of working at Sun Technologies:
Pros – Sun Microsystems offered developers and engineering staff independence, a creative environment, intelligent colleagues, access to high-end technology, and a great campus and working environment. There was a real commitment to quality software design.
Cons – The development process was often driven by marketing and engineering managers working at cross-purposes to one another. There was little support or fulfillment working on products that got cancelled. Ultimately it burned people out.
